Feelin' Good with Marie: Why having fun beats grinding, two apps that earned a spot on my phone, our USPS guy now visits 5x a week, and one habit that fires me up every morning
Welcome back to another week of my ramblings and stories and fun. I hope you’ve had a good weekend (it’s not over yet) and had a great week last week.
BTW Sunday scaries are easier if you check slack before Monday morning hits...
Fun is the ultimate competitive advantage
Chances are, you’ve had an unglamourous labor job at some point.
Working at a mall, or restaurant, or swimming pool or something. Highschool and college summers usually.
Started out fun then turned into counting the hours til you’re done. A job where you can’t wait to clock out and not work when you’re off
Fun is the opposite, when you stop to eat and you can’t wait to get back to it.
Everyone has some version of this (that doesn’t include work): a hobby, a project, a skill, an activity that pulls them in effortlessly.
Cars, painting, content, building, cooking. Infinite options. That’s what makes the world so great. Masters, people who LOVE what they do, doing it for all of us.
And it’s why the person who’s genuinely enjoying the work is impossible to compete with.
If you can’t wait to get off, notice what you do WHILE you’re off, and what you can’t wait to do while you’re sitting at work.
Find the intersection where creation and enjoyment meet. Once you find it (and you will, if you try), protect it at all costs.
Two apps that earned a spot on my phone
I try not to touch my phone in the morning, but two apps have earned the right to be exceptions:
RespiRelax - breathing exercises. one right after i get up
Waking Up - sam harris’s meditation app. right after the breathing
Both have genuinely made my life better.
In a world of doomscrolling, I’m looking for more apps that make me feel better. Please send any you use and love.
USPS, our new bff’s
Update from inside the gummy factory:
USPS now comes to our HQ 5 times a week.
They started showing up with their own boxes (which we’ll take as flattering)
I never thought I’d know so much about postage but here we are shipping hundreds of GloGlos every week.
Thing of the week: the 10-minute morning walk
This one is free, so pay close attention...
Tomorrow, Monday, go for a 10-minute walk before anything else. Without your phone if you can.
It could be laps around your office, or your suburb, literally wherever.
And tell me how it goes....
Choose to have fun this week, the serious stuff will always be there. 💗
Sending you a digital high five through the screen. Until next time...
-Marie 💃
